Here's my romance backlist. From St. Martin's Press Wanna Get to Know Ya If You Just Say Yes It's Takes Two in The Sistahood of Shopaholics anthology What A Girl Wants It's A Love Thang COVERS & NOTES These covers are listed in order of publication date with the latest first. The colors on "Wanna Get to Know Ya" really pop. They make me think of a refreshing bottle of Orange Crush soda, but at first I thought it looked as if Shadow Girl was giving the Shadow Guy the finger. What do you think???? :-) The editor came up with the title. I'd drawn a blank on this one. I'd grown bored with the usual romance heroine occupations and went out on a limb in this one. I made C.J. the tomboy heroine a long-haul truck driver, based on a woman I'd met while on vacation. I was touring an alligator farm in Miami. I thought it would be fun to push the boundaries a bit with a lead character's job, backstory and internal conflict. At first I was a little concerned that the colors were too dark on this one, but I'd hoped the neon pink would help. I like the jazz band in the background. Both the hero and heroine in this one were into jazz. The title was inspired by a song from the Whispers "Say Yes." I think this is one of the most romantic songs ever written. I've been told this story had more of a women's fiction feel to it than my other books. Yes, this was around the time I was getting a little tired of the romance formula and I'd attempted to stretch my wings with a bigger story. This one feels more like a family drama. I think it's my strongest book to date.
My favorite cover so far: "What A Girl Wants." I think readers agree. I got the most e-mails on this one. I'm not sure if it's the cover or the love scenes. This is the sexiest book I've written.
My first cover from a major publishing house so this was a milestone for me. It was back when cartoon covers were still big and the bright colors fit the fun, playful tone of my first screwball comedy. I had so much fun writing this one! And it will always be one of my personal favorites. I'd pitched to the editor for two years. Revised and revised. My persistence finally paid off. It led to sales of the three previous books posted here and a novella. The first version of the title was "It's A Love Thing." From another Whispers song. (Love those Whispers.) The editor suggested changing it to "It's A Love Thang" to give it more flava. I recall my mother-in-law's first glimpse at the cover and her snarky comment. "Thang?" she said scrunching up her nose. "Is there such a word in the dictionary?"
This is my second favorite cover. It's for my first novella titled "It Takes Two". I was thrilled to be invited to contribute to an anthology featuring work by Leslie, Monica and Niqui. For those who don't know Leslie also does a kick-ass, bestselling vampire series under the name L.A. Banks. Check it out! From Genesis Press There was quite a difference between the large publisher and small press covers below. Genesis gave me my first shot at publication and I'll always be grateful for that.
